Panel members in a discussion at the DAC 2008 said that tech advances could reduce U.S. dependence on foreign oil. "Clean energy," particularly solar power advanced by developments in nanotechnology, is among the promising power alternatives.

What can India do to make solar energy economically viable for widespread use? Or should we consider alternatives to solar?

National Semiconductor has entered the photovoltaic market with SolarMagic, a technology that reportedly increases energy extraction from individual panels by up to 12 per cent. With private investors ready to provide almost Rs.80,000 crore support for PV manufacturing in India, such technology can provide a significant advantage to those in the solar power business.
But is the 12 per cent gain sufficient to compete with the old-fashioned coal-fired alternative? Tell us what you think.

As an engineer working in power take off design, I can say it is hard to get required efficieny from a solar engine.
